The rhyming text written by Mary Manz Simon tells the Christmas story through a Christmas tree and its ornaments. The evergreen tree is like God’s love – always with us. The angel is on the tree because it was an angel who first told the Christmas story. A nativity scene ornament reminds us that Jesus came to earth like a baby. Candy canes remind us of the shepherds. The star is there because of the star that shown over Bethlehem to mark where Jesus was born. Shiny ornaments remind us of the gifts of the magi. The lights remind us that Jesus is God’s light. The Christmas tree has many things that should point us to the true meaning of Christmas, My Christmas Story Tree reminds young and old alike.

Gavin Scott’s illustrations are colorful and illustration the text well. Young children will be able to look at the book and understand the story once it has been read to them a time or two.
