Christmas Love Letters from God by Glenys Nellist

Part of the Love Letters from God series by Glenys Nellist, Christmas Love Letters from God would be a good picture book addition to your religious Christmas collection. Focusing on seven scripture passages, author Glenys Nellist tells the Christmas story in short four-page snippets. She includes a prophecy from Isaiah, Mary’s song, Joseph’s dream, the trip to Bethlehem, Jesus birth, the story of the shepherds, and the wise men’s story.  Each snippet ends with a short “love letter from God” focusing on the message of that specific story.

Rachel Clowes has illustrated the text with pictures of the characters of the story. In some way some of her illustrations remind me of the old flannel graph stories. Other of her illustrations seem to jump off the page. The illustrations will give children a visual representation of the characters in the story but do not go beyond that.

The book could be read start to finish or used as a week of devotionals for a class or family. If you are looking for additional titles for your Christmas collection, you should place Christmas Love Letters from God on your consideration list.

I received a copy of Christmas Love Letters from God from Zonderkidz in exchange for this honest review on my children’s literature blog. I was not required to give a positive review.  I appreciate the review copy and will be placing it in the school library where I serve as librarian.
