My Review

Cummings, Deedee. In the Nick of Time, Too. Illustrated by Charlene Mosley. 2022.

Deedee Cummings continues with her desire for her son to see characters like him in books with In the Nick of Time, Too. I agree that kids should be able to find characters like them in the books they read. In this story Cummings focuses on the diversity of the season – Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa as well as a black Santa. The underlying message of the story is a good one – spreading hope and caring for others.

The characters are twelve which is a little old for the main characters in a picture book, they could have been assigned a younger age without changing the story.

Charlene Mosley used a whimsical style and a lot of color for her illustrations. The illustrations complement the story well and give young listeners much to look at while listening to the story.

In the Nick of Time, Too is one of those books I recommend Christian school librarians read before placing in their library. Because of the focus on a wide variety of celebrations, they will want to make sure the book is appropriate for their audience.

I received a complimentary copy of In the Nick of Time, Too. This is my honest review.
