I was so excited when I saw that Laura Seeger had a new concept book out. I enjoy sharing Green with my students and was hoping to pair this new title with it. Laura Seeger uses just a couple of words on each page of this picture book – usually a type of blue – and then illustrates that blue. Readers will explore: baby blue, maybe blue, midnight blue, true blue, and others. Seeger created a beautiful acrylic painting for each phrase. Spoiler alert: each page focuses on a boy and his dog (who dies near the end and is replaced with a new one). While I love this book almost as much as her earlier concept book, I can see it causing some tears in my more sensitive students.

I will be including this title in my Mock Caldecott unit this fall. I may even include in my my concept book unit later in the year.

If you’d like to add Blue to your collection, it is available from Amazon. Thanks for using my affiliate link which helps support this children’s literature blog.
