If you have followed this blog for very long, you know that I love wordless books and that baseball is my favorite sport. I Got It! fits with both of those loves. David Wiesner’s new book is an almost wordless picture book. The only words in the book are the words of the title. The pictures tell the story of a young boy playing baseball.  At the beginning of the book he trips and misses a fly ball.  The rest of the book shows him trying repeatedly to catch the ball with some difficulty until at the end he is able to catch the ball.

I Got It! would be a great springboard to a writing assignment – tell the story in words. Or give each student a different page to write about and then combine all of their writing into one story.

David Wiesner used acrylic, gouache, and watercolor to create the beautiful illustrations which tell the story. I Got It! is probably one of my favorites on this year’s Mock Caldecott list – one I will be including in my unit later this fall.

I recommend I Got It! for your collection. Thanks for using my Amazon Affiliate link which helps to support this children’s literature blog without costing you any extra.
