Cannon, Janell. Verdi. San Diego: Harcourt Brace & Company, 1997.
I consider Verdi a classic children’s picture book. Janell Cannon’s illustrations are detailed and able to hold the attention of young children while the large amount of text on each page is read.
Verdi tells the story of a green tree python from the time he leaves his mother as a small yellow snake. Janell Cannon teaches the life cycle of the snake within the story of Verdi an active little snake who vows to never be like the old green snakes. Cannon includes “Snake Notes” at the end of the book which tell factual information about snakes. She consulted with herpetologists in order to ensure the accuracy of her information.
Reptile books are sure to engage young boys and even some young girls. I recommend Verdi for your home or school library. Verdi is available from Amazon. Thank you for using my affiliate link, which does not cost you any more but does help support this children’s literature blog.
