Danny and the Dinosaur was my middle child’s favorite book growing up. In fact, one year for Book Character Dress Up, I made him a dinosaur costume and sewed a doll to the shoulder to represent Danny. I share this book with my littles every year.

Syd Hoff created Danny and the Dinosaur back in the fifties. When he renewed the copyright in the eighties, he introduced a whole new generation to the book. He then created Happy Birthday, Danny and the Dinosaur! and Danny and the Dinosaur Go to Camp which were released in the nineties.

If you are not familiar with Danny and the Dinosaur, Syd Hoff tells the story of a boy who goes to a museum. When Danny sees the dinosaur, he wishes aloud that he could play with it. The dinosaur responds and the two spend the day together. The illustrations are full-color and cartoon-like. My students always enjoy this picture book.

Danny and the Dinosaur is available from Amazon if you’d like to get to get a copy. Thanks for using my affiliate link which doesn’t cost you more, but does help support this children’s literature blog.
