Most children have an imaginary friend at some point in their childhood. Dan Santat has legitimized this idea for children in The Adventures of Beekle. Beekle was born on the Island where all imaginary friends are born and await children to imagine them. When Beekle isn’t imagined he decides to set out on his own to find his friend. He almost gives up before he comes across a child and it feels right. Alice and Beekle share many adventures. The illustrations were done using pencil, crayon, watercolor, ink, and Adobe Photoshop. They are brightly colored and appeal to children. The book is worthy of the Caldecott Award and is appropriate for young children.
