A part of her had always wondered if they were right.

Janine turned from the window and shoved aside the past’s dark moments. She refused to listen to the news anymore because she couldn’t let his case creep into her life again. Even though they were miles away, if she let the case in, she’d be right back there again—back in Washington D.C. rolling up to that first crime scene.

Bailey, her three-year-old Pug, watched her in eager anticipation.

“Ready to go for a run?”

Bailey barked his enthusiasm, and she laughed. The dog loved going on runs with her, and she loved him. She’d adopted the pug a few years back and couldn’t imagine life without her little buddy.

“All right, let’s get you ready.” Janine grabbed the expandable leash and attached it to Bailey’s harness. She eyed the sweater she’d bought for her furry friend and held it up. Bailey hated the constraints wearing the sweater created. The dog promptly hid under her desk. “Okay, okay, no sweater. It’s warm enough outside today. I think you’ll be okay.” Bailey returned and allowed her to place the leash on his harness.

About the Author

Mary Alford grew up in a small Texas town famous for, well not much of anything really. Being the baby of the family and quite a bit younger than her two brothers and her sister, Mary had plenty of time to entertain herself. Making up stories seemed to come naturally to her.

As a preteen, Mary discovered Phyllis Whitney and Victoria Holt and knew instinctively that was what she wanted to do with her over-active imagination.

She wrote her first novel as a teen, (it’s tucked away somewhere never to see the light of day), but never really pursued her writing career seriously until a few years later, when she wrote her first inspirational romantic suspense and was hooked.

Today, Mary lives in Texas with her husband and loves to create characters who face dangerous situations with faith on their side.
