Book Description:

The world is not always perfect. A scraggly little tree named Needles must endure taunts, criticism, and setbacks to realize his goal of becoming a beautiful Christmas tree.

This is a story of hope, dreams, desires, determination, and never giving up. It also offers the observation that what others think is beautiful may not really matter. Beauty is truly in the eyes of the beholder . . . and paired with the spirit of Christmas, maybe we can make the world just a little more perfect!

My Review

Wagner, Richard. Needles, The Forgotten Christmas Tree. Illustrated by Sydni Kruger. Herndon, VA: Mascot Books, 2023

I love Christmas stories – especially those with a happy ending. This one got its inspiration from an event in the author’s life.

Needles is kind of a “Charlie Brown Christmas tree.” It is a bit scraggly with not as many branches as some trees. Needles is determined to be a beautiful Christmas tree for someone. It is a bit of a sad story – there may be a few tears from tender hearted children. But it has a beautiful ending. Needles is the perfect tree for one family.

Sydni Kruger has created delightful illustrations to complement the text. Children may enjoy paging through the book even when they don’t have anyone to read it to them. I can see this title becoming a family favorite.

Needles, the Forgotten Christmas Tree would be a sweet addition to the Christmas collection of a K-12 Christian school library.

I received a complimentary copy of Needles, The Forgotten Christmas Tree. This is my honest review.

Meet the Author – Richard Wagner:

Wagner grew up in Southern California. When he was 14-years old, a business friend of his father’s had a small Christmas tree delivered as a thank you. Their family already had a large tree decorated in the house. Not being able to find anyone who needed a tree, that small Christmas tree stood outside by itself for the remainder of the Christmas holiday.

  1. What a sweet book. My friend, who is a doctor at a free clinic, loves to have these books for the kids to read when they come in. She has been known to give some of them away if a child truly loves the book.
