My Review of  Moon in the Sky

Shutts, Bruce. The Moon in the Sky. Illustrated by Amy Wummer. Plymouth, MA: Stinson Books, 2022.

Bruce Shutts has perfectly captured the mind of a preschooler in this collection of poems. The Moon in the Sky includes 13 poems on a variety of topics that will appeal to preschoolers. Be warned, there is some potty and nose picking poetry in case you feel that is inappropriate for your little ones. Other topics include: car trips, baths, taking walks, snacks, and more. The poems are well-written and use a rhyming pattern which is a form young children enjoy.

Amy Wummer’s colorful illustrations complement the text well. Children will enjoy the visualization of the text.

I would consider adding The Moon in the Sky: Poem your kids would have written (if only they could write) to a K-12 Christian school library. Librarians should keep in mind my warning from above when deciding about purchasing the book for their poetry section.

The Moon in the Sky provides a way to celebrate Poetry Month in April with younger children.

I received a complimentary copy of The Moon in the Sky. This is my honest review.

Meet the Author – Bruce Shutts:

Bruce Shutts has spent countless hours reading children’s picture books to his three children and five grandchildren over the past forty years. He also loves to create humorous poems for nearly every occasion he can imagine. Coupled with the fact that he often thinks and acts like a three-to-six-year-old, it makes his entrance into the world of children’s books a natural fit. He currently is retired with his wife of forty-five years and loves to travel, play golf, and (you guessed it) read books at night to his grandkids!

Thanks for the kind review. It was fun to write. It’s funny how kids actually are intrigued by the bathroom humor, so I included just a bit. Thanks again for your support.
