Flotsam

Weisner, David. Flotsam. New York: Clarion Books, 2006.

Flotsam

I love this book but it does require some explanation for today’s students who have only lived in a world where digital is the way to go. In Flotsam David Wiesner tells the story of a boy who finds a camera on the seashore. He takes the film to the store to have it developed (today’s students don’t understand this concept). When he looks at the pictures he finds that there are many interesting pictures on the camera. David Wiesner was awarded the Caldecott Medal for his illustrations.

While the book seems outdated, it is still a great book and should have a place in your writing program. There are so many interesting pictures in the book – great writing prompts for your students.

I recommend adding Flotsam to your wordless book collection if you do not already have it.

Flotsam is available through Amazon. When you find a book on Library Lady’s Kid Lit that you would like to purchase, I hope you will use the purchase links provided. When you make a purchase through our affiliate links, you support this children’s literature blog. I am grateful for you. Thank you!
