Winter, Jeanette. Mama. New York: Harcourt, Inc., 2006.
This beautiful wordless book tells the story of a baby hippo who was washed away from his herd due to the 2004 Indonesian Tsunami. Jeanette Winter based this book on a true story. Her illustrations are lovely and do an excellent job of telling the story.
Mama would be a great addition to a wordless book collection and has uses in the area of language development and having children tell the story they see.
MAMA: a TRUE story, in which a BABY HIPPO loses his MAMA during a TSUNAMI, but finds a new home, and a new MAMA is available from Amazon.
