Adults have come to love the Baxter Family through the many books Karen Kingsbury has written about them. Have you ever wondered what the family members were like as children? Karen Kingsbury and son Tyler Russell teamed up to write this first book in the Baxter Family Children series. At the start of the book Brooke is 13, Kari is 11, Ashley is 10, Erin is 8, and Luke is 6. They all love where they live in Ann Arbor and believe they will never leave their beloved house with its perfect tree house or all their friends. Life will stay the same forever. As adults we know that that often is not the case. Karen Kingsbury and Tyler Russell done a great job of creating the childhood of these well-known characters.

Best Family Ever focuses on Kari and Ashley – chapters are headed with the name of the girl telling the story. The book covers the second semester of Ashley’s fourth grade year and Kari’s fifth grade year. We learn the ups and downs of the girls’ lives and the feelings they face when news comes that the family is moving. Ashley is artistic and athletic in nature and not as academic as her parents would like. Reading Best Family Ever could help children and parents alike learn to travel the path when child and parent don’t agree on what is most important.  Ashley makes some mistakes but her parents are able to guide her back to the most important things – God and family.

Best Family Ever is Christian fiction written for children in grades 3-5, however middle schoolers and those who have enjoyed the other Baxter family books by Karen Kingsbury will enjoy this book and those that follow. I want to thank Karen Kingsbury for the review copy of Best Family Ever and for allowing me to be on her street team. I will be reading this book to some of my older elementary classes this spring. The book will be placed in our school library for all to enjoy.
