Theo. LeSieg was one of the pseudonyms for Theodore Geisel or Dr. Seuss. I Wish That I Had Duck Feet is a fun picture book about a boy who imagines what it would be like to have body parts like different animals – duck feet, horns, whale spout, long tail, or an elephant nose. He imagines the positives, the good things he could do, and the negatives; the unpleasant things others would expect of him or do to him.

Illustrator B. Tobey, was a cartoonist for The New Yorker who used his talents to complement Geisel’s text. I find them to be delightful and the kids find them funny.

I Wish That I Had Duck Feet is another of my childhood favorites that I share toward the end of the school year. It has also been used by our guest readers during Read Across America Day. A fun activity I have used in the past is to have the students draw themselves with an animal body part that they would find useful.
