Here’s a Little Poem was recently donated to our school library and I’m glad it was. Since this is National Poetry Month, it is one of the books I pulled from our shelves for students and teachers to use for their poetry assignments. Jane Yolen and Andrew Fusek Peters collected more than 50 poems for inclusion in this title.

The poems are divided into the following chapters (categories): Me, Myself, and I, Who Lives in My House?, I Go Outside, and Time for Bed. Some poems are short; others are longer. Some are by famous people like: A.A. Milne, Myra Cohn Livingston, Nikki Grimes, and Jack Prelutsky. Others are by lesser known poets (at least to me): Grace Nichols, Eric Finney, and Marci Ridlon.

Polly Dunbar used mixed media to create her illustrations. They are very whimsical and complement the text well.

I highly recommend adding Here’s a Little Poem to your poetry collection. If you can only have one poetry book – this should be it!

If you would like to add Here’s A Little Poem: A Very First Book of Poetry to your collection, it is available from Amazon. Thanks for using my affiliate link which helps support this children’s literature blog.
