MY REVIEW

Ferguson, Karen. Guess How Much God Loves You. Greenville, SC: Ambassador International, 2022. 

Guess How Much God Loves You is Karen Ferguson’s first picture book. It appears she is also the illustrator of the book. 

I was a little confused by a couple of aspects of the book. The text mentions that no one likes the main character because she looks and talks funny. The illustrations didn’t really show anything “funny” or different about her appearance. The dialogue in the story didn’t show anything “funny” about her speech. 

I was also a bit confused by the appearance of a motorized wheelchair in the illustrations. At times Papa Joe is sitting in it and other times it is Lucy. Lucy is also shown on several pages without the wheelchair. It may not confuse the children the book is meant for – they don’t necessarily overthink like adults do. 

I did enjoy the author’s way of introducing the Bible and the story of Creation to someone who may not have heard the story before. Guess How Much God Loves You would be a great book for family devotions or primary-aged Bible class.

Guess How Much God Loves You could find a place in the picture book section of a K-12 Christian school library. It could also find a place in a church or classroom library. 

I received a complimentary copy of Guess How Much God Loves You. This is my honest review.

Karen Ferguson is a freelance writer and small business owner with a background in K-8 education. A grateful wife, mom, and grandmom she loves words and the Word of God and is passionate about writing stories that grab and hold young readers’ attention, while teaching them all about God’s unchangeable truths, and His unchanging love for them. She wants every child to know that their life matters.
