Catching Hope: A pursuit fraught with danger.

Newly adopted Lexi Michaels is taking her first real vacation as she, twin brother Levi, adoptive brother Chad, and new cousin Jen head to Haiti where their dad, a pediatrician, will be volunteering in an island clinic. But who is the man who displays such hatred for the Michaels when they arrive at their resort? Is an attempted burglary as random as it appears? Will Jen ever accept the newcomers to the family? When the four teens set out to explore Haiti’s sights and history on their own, an unexpected encounter and natural disaster plunge them into adventure and danger. With their very survival at stake, can the four teens work together, or will Lexi’s dream of a “forever family” end in tragedy?

MY REVIEW

When your life looks like Lexi’s has, you don’t have much reason for hope. She and her twin brother Levi, who has autism, were recently adopted out of the foster care system, which had failed them. Dr. and Mrs. M are Christians who do medical mission trips to Haiti. Levi and Lexi now have a brother (Chad) who was also adopted out of the foster care system when he was a young boy. The family is taking a mission trip/vacation to Haiti and rich, spoiled cousin Jen is tagging along since her parents are traveling in Europe. The four teens have an adventure that no one really wants to have but it does teach Lexi a few things. She learns to overcome some of her fears and learns, with Chad’s help, to have hope.
Kathy Cassel used her experience as an adoptive mom in writing Catching Hope. The story is very realistic and engaging. I couldn’t put it down – I had to know what was coming next.
Catching Hope would make a great addition to a K-12 Christian school library. Middle school and up will enjoy the exciting story.
I received a complimentary copy of Catching Hope. This is my honest review.
