 An Interview with Michael

When did you first know you wanted to be an author?

In 2015 when I started writing my first poetry collection and was ready to be vulnerable with my
writing.

When you are not writing, what other hats do you wear? What do you do for fun?

I love playing with my dog Coach and my growing family. I love music and surfing the internet. And, I love traveling and going to places such as eateries, parks, and retail stores.

What is your favorite genre to read? Drama. What about that genre draws you?

I like the stories of real-life or not. I refer to myself as narrative writing so stories that capture that drama do it for me.

What is your vacation destination?

Right now, London, UK. I recently traveled there in May 2022 and fell in love. Why? The history, diversity, open culture, and being different.

Who did you have in mind as you wrote the book?

The boy or girl that got pushed aside in the gym or the lunch line. The boy or girl that thought you had to be popular by doing bad things to get attention. And for the boy or girl that hides their voice and needs a mentor to bring it out to shine.

As a former K-12 school librarian I have to ask – what is your favorite children’s book?

The Cat in the Hat to this day.

What advice would you give to a child or teen who wants to be a writer?

Learn to be kind to your writing and ideas. Let them grow into whatever they want to be. And, not be intimidated by what you’re writing. Keep writing.
