In this delightful and heartwarming novel, an orphaned baby brings together an unlikely couple who learn the true meaning of family.

When Hannah Eicher discovered sweet baby Grace in her barn last spring, the adorable infant seemed like the answer to her prayers. The young Amish baker has always wanted a familye of her own and now that she’s fostered Grace for nearly a year, her adoption application is almost certain to be approved. But an unexpected visitor to Hope’s Haven could change everything…

Englischer paramedic Mike Colder is only returning to his childhood hometown to locate and adopt his late sister’s baby. But when the trail leads to Hannah and Grace, Mike’s determination falters. With Hannah, the simple life he left behind suddenly seems appealing. Despite their wildly different worlds, can Mike and Hannah give each other—and Grace—the greatest gift of all: a life together?

When did you first know you wanted to be an author?

I can’t point to one ah-ha moment on this – I think I was born wanting to write 🙂 My earliest memory of writing, (besides the diaries I kept from a very young age) was in elementary school when I decided to pen my own episode of a favorite TV program. I was totally convinced once I’d finished that it was a masterpiece of great writing!

When you are not writing, what other hats do you wear? What do you do for fun?

I’m a Nana who happily watches her toddler grandson two days a week. I also enjoy reading, of course, cooking and experimenting with new and interesting tea flavors.

What is your favorite genre to read? What about that genre draws you?

I love a good fairytale retelling. In any subgenre—fantasy, regency romance, medieval romance, contemporary romance, etc.  As for why, I’ve always loved fairytales and folktales. I have several volumes of them from Grimm to Anderson to Asian and European compilations. Someday I hope to write some of my own.

What is your favorite holiday? And why?

Christmas. Beyond it’s significance as the birth of Jesus, it is the one time of year when my very large extended family all get together at my Mom’s home to celebrate together.

What historical figure do you admire and why?

Eleanor Roosevelt. She was a remarkable woman who overcame a lot of adversity. She fought hard for women’s right and she was a writer to boot!

Who did you have in mind as you wrote the book?

The heroine, Hannah Eicher, is very loosely based on her namesake in the bible. The biblical Hannah was childless, a matter of great distress to her and she cried out to God to give her a child. Similarly my Hannah has been told she will never bear children and all her plans for a happy future have become like ashes. Until a miracle happens and she finds an abandoned baby that has been anonymously left to her care.

As a former K-12 school librarian I have to ask – what is your favorite children’s book?

As a child I loved the Bobbsey Twin books.  As a mom, I loved to read the Berenstein Bears books to my children

What advice would you give to a child or teen who wants to be a writer?

Read, read and read some more so you really absorb what goes into a good story. And then practice. Write.

Winnie, thanks so much for joining me today on my blog.
