Betrayal and trust go hand in hand in the first book of Heidi Eljarbo’s new turn-of-the-century series.

It’s 1898, and Lilly has spent most of her life motherless and living with a father who never looks for a silver lining. When her great-aunt Agatha passes, Lilly’s existence takes a drastic turn. She packs her few belongings and moves into the old lady’s magnificent estate, Rosenli Manor.

In the days that follow, Lilly tries to understand who Agatha really was, and hidden secrets slowly rise to the surface. Her great-aunt’s glamorous legacy is not quite what Lilly had imagined. She must trust in newly forged friendships, and to her surprise, she discovers what it means to truly fall in love. But not everyone is happy about the new mistress of Rosenli.

Intrigue, mystery, and a touch of romance in the Norwegian countryside fill the pages of Secrets of Rosenli Manor. Fans of Rhys Bowen, Julie Klassen, Kathleen McGurl, Kate Morton, and Lucinda Riley will be delighted with this new novel.

Heidi Eljarbo

Heidi Eljarbo is the bestselling author of historical fiction and mysteries filled with courageous and good characters that are easy to love and others you don’t want to go near.

Heidi grew up in a home filled with books and artwork and she never truly imagined she would do anything other than write and paint. She studied art, languages, and history, all of which have come in handy when working as an author, magazine journalist, and painter.

After living in Canada, six US states, Japan, Switzerland, and Austria, Heidi now calls Norway home. She and her husband have a total of nine children, thirteen grandchildren—so far—in addition to a bouncy Wheaten Terrier.

Their favorite retreat is a mountain cabin, where they hike in the summertime and ski the vast, white terrain during winter.

Heidi’s favorites are family, God’s beautiful nature, and the word whimsical.

Thank you for joining me today, Heidi. My readers and I are excited to learn more about you.

When did you first know you wanted to be an author?

I dreamed about writing as a child. I loved books and wanted to write stories. I didn’t seriously pursue novel writing until many years later. The creativity is still there, and now I have more experience in life to draw from. For me, that’s a good combination.

When you are not writing, what other hats do you wear? What do you do for fun?

Oh, how to pick only a few? I have to start with art. I grew up with an artist father. Drawing and painting became part of my life. So much, that I ended up studying art and art history. I love being outside, walking my dog in any kinds of weather (and I live in a place with four distinct seasons), and also hiking and skiing in the mountains. I get excited about anything “history”, and I love music, genealogy, and eating meals someone else has cooked. Most of all, I enjoy being with my family.

What is your favorite genre to read? What about that genre draws you?

I read mostly historical fiction with interesting characters and a compelling storyline. Historical facts and real people woven into the story are always fascinating to me, but the novel shouldn’t read like a history book.

What is your favorite holiday? And why?

My favorite day is Easter because of my faith and the hope Easter brings. Other than that, I love the magic of Christmas.

What historical figure do you admire and why?

I’d like to go back in time and watch some of the famous master painters at work. What amazing talent they had.

Who did you have in mind as you wrote the book?

When I wrote Secrets of Rosenli Manor, I thought of the many brave women in history who dared to speak their mind, get an education, and stand up for their place in society. They worked hard but still maintained the special caregiving role of many women. I imagined the main character Lilly to be like my daughter, Anya. In fact, Lilly is much like her.

This question could also mean who I wrote the book for. Since this is a clean read even teenagers can read this book, but I mostly thought of women who like historical fiction with a brave heroine, a bit of mystery, and a handsome new friend.

As a former K-12 school librarian I have to ask – what is your favorite children’s book?

I had two favorites: Pollyanna and Heidi. I also enjoyed Nancy Drew and The Famous Five series.

What advice would you give to a child or teen who wants to be a writer?

Read, read, read. Especially read novels in the genre you’d like to write. Learn about that genre. For example, if you choose to write historical fiction, you need to enjoy hours of research.
