An Interview with Tyler

When did you first know you wanted to be an author?   I’ve known for many years that I wanted to write a book because with my experience in ministry and sportswriting, I knew I would eventually combine those two passions.  Eventually, the desire a reality and I got to work!

When you are not writing, what other hats do you wear? What do you do for fun?  I wear a lot of them!  In addition to being a husband and a father, I am a youth pastor in Indiana, a varsity girls basketball coach, and an NBA sportswriter for the Indiana Pacers.  I’m very blessed to do all of these different things, and I believe each one of them has a specific purpose.  I enjoy anything that has to do with sports or music.

What is your favorite genre to read? What about that genre draws you?  I only read other Christian books.  I’m drawn to real life stories and how people can make the Scriptures come to life through their experiences and teaching.

If readers have just one take-away from this book, what do you want it to be?  The Christian life is meant to be a journey.  Life is too short, and God is too good for us not to seek Him and be aware of Him on a daily basis.  A Sunday-only faith is not a true faith at all.  Let’s work together and learn what it means to really seek God all seven days a week.

What advice would you give to a child or teen who wants to be a writer?   Write, write, and write some more.  Like anything else in life, it takes time to improve and hone your craft.  It’s also important to CELEBRATE small victories.  If you write a blog or article, and ten people read it- celebrate that.  That’s ten people that could be encouraged or inspired.  Don’t worry about becoming a best-selling offer: Write for the joy of writing and the people you could impact along the way.
