Motherhood challenged her in ways no one could have prepared her for. There was nothing Belle wouldn’t do for her little girl, and the weight of raising Anna right weighed on her constantly. She equally worried that she’d either spoil her rotten or be too harsh. She always worked to stay two steps ahead of a tantrum. Tried hard to provide for her needs while fulfilling some of her wants. And the moment she thought maybe, just maybe, she had things figured out, Anna changed all the rules.
All with no one to shoulder the ups and downs with. Motherhood could be so incredibly isolating even on its best days, and she didn’t even want to think about the tough ones. Would some of that lift if she had a partner?
“We go?” Anna’s little fist tugged on Belle’s pinkie.
Good thing, because her line of thinking was growing dangerously close to Micah territory, and that was the last place she needed to revisit. He wasn’t the antidote to her loneliness, he was the root cause of it, and she needed to remember that fact.
But, oh, did he possess the ability to give her heart a bad case of amnesia.
Another tug. “Mama?”
“Yes, Monkey, let’s go.” It was entirely too hot up here.
