NEW KINGDOM. NEW FRIENDS.

NEW DANGERS.

NOT EVERYONE CAN BE TRUSTED …

Karina, Tristian, Rashka, and Sam venture forth into the wilderness of Soter on the next leg of their quest to retrieve the Armor of the Creator. With the ancient evil already affecting the kingdom, nothing in Soter is what it seems—from what skulks beneath the canopies of the woods to what lies within the sleek white and gold of the capitol city to the people Karina and Tristan have known since they were children.

Danger lurks around every corner. Discerning who to trust is paramount to staying alive and discovering the location of the Temple of Soter. Yet, to Karina’s horror, Faramos’s reach finds them time and again. The longer they are forced to dawdle, the more people are affected by the growing panic in Soter, and the closer Faramos is to taking over the Three Kingdoms. Can Karina retrieve the information they need while Tristan keeps his brother at bay? Or will the entire quest disintegrate before they even arrive at the temple?

My Review

After reading Armor of Aletheia earlier this fall, I was eagerly anticipating Sword of Soter. Ralene Burke did not disappoint. Burke continues the epic adventure begin in book one. Some of the characters continue in Sword of Soter and new ones are introduced. I was disappointed in the path that at least one of the characters from Armor of Aletheia takes in Sword of Soter. It was hard to take but it did give a new character a more involved role.

Much like she did in the first book, Ralene Burke sprinkles paraphrased Scripture throughout the text without being preachy. I appreciate this aspect of her work. If you enjoy epic fantasy like Lord of the Rings or Chronicles of Narnia, I highly recommend Sword of SoterSword of Soter is book two in the Sacred Armor Trilogy and covers the second of the three quests Karina must go on for the Creator. I can’t wait to read the others in this series.

I would not hesitate to add Sword of Soter to my K-12 Christian School library, and most likely will. I want to thank Prism Book Tours for the e-copy of Sword of Soter. This is my honest review of the book.

Meet Ralene Burke

I am so excited to welcome Ralene Burke to Library Lady’s Kit Lit. Thank you for taking a couple of minutes to answer a few questions.

When did you first know you wanted to be an author?

I never know how to answer this without sounding cliché. I’ve always wanted to be an author. I had my first piece published in a city-wide literary magazine when I was in the 3rd grade. I took every opportunity for newspapers, creative writing, etc. all through school. Though it wasn’t until I was about 25 that I decided to pursue that dream on a more serious level.

When you are not writing, what other hats do you wear? What do you do for fun?

I tend to be a very busy lady. In the realm of publishing, I’m also a freelance editor and Marketing Director for Realm Makers. All while assisting my husband, a disabled vet, and homeschooling our 3 kids. I tend to stay very busy, and my home is rarely pristine.

Describe your book in 5 adjectives.

Describe Sword of Soter in 5 adjectives? Epic, emotional, darker, twisty, and…hopeful.

Who did you have in mind as you wrote the book?

The Sacred Armor trilogy was written for those who are still searching for their calling. Or those who have found their calling but are unsure they are worthy of it or how to embrace it. Each character is the story is called to something they are uncomfortable with for different reasons, much like we are.

Because I am a K-12 school librarian I have to ask – what is your favorite children’s book?

The Chronicles of Narnia were my favorite from a very young age. But also anything by Shel Silverstein.

Every year I organize a Young Authors Day for the kids at our school. What advice would you give to a child who wants to be a writer?

Read. A lot. When you’re younger, that’s the time to really discover the vast array of books and stories out there. Read in lots of genres, read modern and classics, read fiction and nonfiction, discover new authors. You’ll develop a radar for good writing and good storytelling.

Thank you so much for sharing with us. It always great to get to know an author a little better.

  1. Thank you for hosting Sword of Soter this week, Jane. I had fun with the interview. And I’m so glad you think the trilogy would be good for a Christian school library. 🙂
