My Review

I love the redemption in this story. Maya and Caleb both carry guilt from their past. Maya about the accident that killed Caleb’s sister and Caleb about an incident in Afghanistan as well as his sister’s death. Maya left her hometown soon after the accident after being cleared of wrongdoing, yet there are a few who still blame her for the death. Hateful things were said after the accident. With the support of her loving grandmother and her grandmother’s friends, Maya learns to face those people. She also realizes that there really aren’t that many who hold the death against her. Caleb also needs to learn that he doesn’t have to fix everything himself and that it is okay to accept help when offered. Throughout Reunited with the Cowboy Maya and Caleb learn to get past the demons that haunt them but will they rekindle the love they once had?

Claire McEwen has written an emotional novel but she has also included what appears to be accurate scientific information about pumas/mountain lions. I love it when I can learn something in a novel.

 

Potential Areas of Concern

There are several scenes which include drinking and getting drunk as well as some bar scenes. There is also some swearing. These items will cause problems for some audiences.

Even though I really enjoyed the story, because of the above areas of concern, I would not be able to place this title in my K-12 Christian school library.
